Earthen Play Dome — Sidi Bouzid, Morocco
Collaborative project with Lisa Rooney

In collaboration with artist Lisa Rooney, I was invited to design and build a children's play structure at a school in Sidi Bouzid, Morocco. Over the course of a month, we envisioned and constructed an earthen dome—a space for imagination, exploration, and play.

Our shared interest in large-scale, site-specific work and natural building techniques guided the project. Drawing on Lisa’s experience in adobe construction—gained from a workshop with builder Joanna Lopez—we combined those foundational skills with local knowledge, mathematical support from our host, and community guidance to realize a 5-foot by 5-foot dome made entirely of earth.

This project was deeply rooted in place, made possible through the generosity of the family who hosted us, and the land we built upon. We’re grateful to Karine (99 Femmes), Ahmed (Open Village), Nayla, and all the children and women who shaped the process with their presence and participation.
